Flood Insurance
Just because you’re in a low-risk area doesn’t mean you’re in a no-risk area Just six inches of water flooding a 1,000-square-foot home will cause $20,150 damage. That means lost furnishings, washers and dryers, stereos, personal effects and other items that make a house a home.
Six inches of flooding in a 2,000-square foot home will cause almost twice damage -- $39,150, according to a federal website on flooding. www.floodsmart.gov/floodsmart/  It’s a painful lesson many people learned last April when as much as 26 inches of rain inundated parts of the Pensacola/Gulf Breeze area. The downpour caused flooding not only in low-lying areas but also in many neighborhoods that never before had flooded. As the old adage puts it, “Just because you’re in a low-risk area doesn’t mean you’re in a no-risk area.” Eagle Insurance will help Pensacolians protect themselves against flooding. For most policies there’s a 30-day waiting period, so don’t delay this important investment in your property and family

Last April’s rainfall proved that hurricanes aren’t the only cause of flooding in Pensacola.
Flooding causes a stunning amount of damage to homes, often requiring major repairs as well as replacement of items. From 2008 to 2012, the average residential flood claim amounted to more than $38,000, government figures show. And more than 20 percent of the claims came from areas that were outside “high risk” areas. Flood insurance is available to homeowners and many others -- renters, condo owners/renters, and commercial owners/renters. Costs vary depending on how much insurance is purchased, what it covers and the property's flood risk. Flood insurance pays off for Cantonment couple that didn’t think they needed it Dave and Kay Pavlock didn’t think they needed flood insurance after they moved into their home in the upscale Bristol park subdivision in Cantonment.
But their son, an insurance agent in South Florida, urged them to get the protection just in case flooding did strike the area, which is normally high and dry. They’re glad they followed his advice. Torrential rainfall in April flooded many homes in the subdivision, which is near 11 Mile Creek. It deposited 48 inches of water in the Pavlocks’ home, forcing them to flee in a boat and be out of their home for 10 weeks. But thanks to the flood insurance, they were able to have their home repaired and their contents replaced. Now they’re back home while neighbors without flood insurance still struggle to rebuild; many flooded homes stand empty and severely damaged. Only three of the 10 homes on their cul-de-sac are occupied now. Dave Pavlock, a longtime race announcer at Five Flags Speedway and a former Escambia County commissioner, has some words of advice: “Unless you live on top of a mountain, you need to get flood insurance,” he told the Pensacola News Journal.
